Help!

I've been on a real binge this year....you know, out with the old and in with something new.

My head has been spinning with ideas.
So far I've done our kitchen at home, along with our bedroom and husbands office.
Some updating in our master bath.

Well now that the cottage is open.....the ideas keep coming.
But I've hit a bit of a brick wall.

I need help.
Let me show you.

Don't mind the mess...I was in the middle of it when hubby was so kind as to remind me we need some before pictures.
All this oak is wonderful....for the 1980's!
Do you see that tile?
Here's a better look.
Blue, white and Grey.
Here is a hint people...as much as you may like a certain colour, remember that your house is going to last longer than you are...please be kind and pick a tile that will go with anything!

So I started...scrubbing the cabinets and painting.
I taped it off and started. I really shouldn't be all that worried about paint on the walls...since this colour is going as well this year. I know what colour I'm painting the great room.

I didn't bother removing the doors from the cabinets since I hated the old hinges...they look better painted.

Now my dilemma is..........what colour to paint the walls.
The cabinets will get a glaze..brown because we are going to replace the counter tops with barn board.
So shoot me with wall colour ideas please.

  1. Are you changing the tile? If not I would pull that little bit of blue for the walls. Maybe like a denim colour?

    1. Not changing the tile...which is why I'm in this dilemma. I've thought of that...I don't want something really dark, but it seems to be the only thing I can picture in my mind.

  2. Now you gotta tell us what color the great room will be.....seeing as you look into the kitchen from there or look into the great room from the kitchen!

  3. Heck, there's at least 50 Shades of Grey to choose from *lol* Actually, I like the blue idea mentioned above by Lisa...perhaps a grey'blue, a really light shade like those "Hint of..." colours that were so popular a couple of decades ago...? Vaguely white but with a hint of whatever colour you chose to add...

In any case, good luck - I'm sure it'll look terrific! ;)

  4. Colonial blue by benjamin Moore is a nice colour. Not too dark but would look nice with the grey and the white.

  5. Mt Ranier gray by Benjamin Moore is a gray with a hint of blue so it covers both bases. I love Breath of Fresh Air blue by BM but it may be a little bright for what you're looking for. I love that you painted your cabinets white... such a big difference already. I'm thinking of going that route myself,

    1. Oh do paint your kitchen. I did it at home...and I blogged about it as well. Just look for the post on the left of my blog.
Going to look at those colours as well :) Thanks

  6. Since you chose a grey for the great room and you are not changing the tile... I would paint the walls a soft blue/grey. However I would probably do a Grey glaze instead of the brown... This would be very nice and fresh, light and airy and cottage like. I would also re-stain your pass-through top to match what you use for your barn board counter tops or paint it out. It has too much yellow tone. And yes, as you replied to a comment earlier... always go with your gut instinct... it is usually right. Happy painting!! :)

    1. I thought of the grey glaze...but wasn't sure how that would work with the barn board counters.
The pass through is getting removed and replaced with barn board as well. :)
