Sweet Diamonds.

Our daughter has a friend who is just starting out. 

She asked me to help her find some furniture...well DA of course I would. 

Hello, who can resist a furniture shopping trip? 

I don't have any before pictures...but it looked something like this

It was in fairly good shape...a bit of the veneer was missing on the top so I ripped off the first layer of veneer. 

For those of you who don't know..if its a really old table, they often (almost always) put two layers of veneer over wood. I was very lucky to get away with being able to remove only one layer and have the second layer in perfect condition. 

Not only that...but it was really pretty too. 

My daughters friend wanted something sturdy but she wanted it updated as well. 

So this is what we came up with. 

 She chose a light grey because lets face it...grey goes with anything. Since she is renting for now it will go with the blue walls in this place but her next home may have red. It will fit in no matter what.

 And what girl doesn't like a diamond or two :)

 The base was painted and distressed. And really how sweet are these legs?

 Even the bottoms of these legs are perfect.

 My daughter is rather jealous and made her friend promise that if she ever wants to get rid of the table to call my daughter first.

What a great way to bring something old into the 21st century and all dressed up for a new life.

It's finally home!

I just had to do a short update on the bed I found

Teal rules!

Don't throw out all those old and outdated end tables. 

You know the ones I'm talking about. They were very stylish back in the day and everyone wanted them. 

Like this set I picked up the other day. 

These came with the glass tops...which I loved because they were smoked glass and in great shape. But I took the picture with them off. If at all possible I try to remove glass before I travel with them, less chance of the glass breaking that way :) 

The size and shape are great and the fact that there are two of them is a huge bonus! 

It's so hard to see the details in the picture and I should have taken more and better pics, but I could beat myself up over all the "if only's" but that won't get me anywhere. 

So I'll just show you what an old piece of furniture can look like when you add a bit of paint. 

 Aren't they sweet now?

 Under that smoked glass I painted the black a lovely shade of very light grey.

 It's not easy to see but it made a world of difference over the black that had been there.

 I glazed all of it, especially in the details. Now you can actually see the details.

 And of course the hardware was perfect so I just cleaned it and painted it a flat black.

 The inside was cleaned up too with grey paint and just a little bit of glazing around the edges.

Check out those feet! I do believe they look rather regal! 

So don't throw out outdated furniture, a bit of paint goes a very long way :)

Porcelain Bowl

Oh so wonderful.

Don't you just love when you find something you fall in love with? 

But what to do with it? 

 I went to a local thrift store yesterday and this just jumped out at me. It's in PERFECT condition!

 I love the colour and the glaze and the over all design. I know it's new, not vintage...but I just couldn't leave it behind.

 I brought it home and showed it to my husband. His first question was....what are we going to do with it? After all we have a kitchen full of bowls. All of which I love and wouldn't give up.

 So then he got to thinking...which didn't take long. I love how his brain works. Seriously he is as creative as I am, maybe more!

 So his thought was....turn it into a sink for our bathroom at the cottage.

Now if only we can find a way to cut a hole in the bottom without breaking it. 

Hmmmmmm for $6 I think it's worth a shot?

The cutest Coffee table ever (I'm not kidding)

When I first started out as a young adult on my own...I rented a small one bedroom furnished apartment. 

The furniture was a mis-mash of "stuff" I only lived there for a year before moving on to a house with my brand new husband. 

Back then money was VERY tight and I wish I had known I could paint furniture. Ohhh the things I could have done. 

My then husband (now ex) HATED yard sales and boy did I hear about it when I brought something home. 

Oh how life has changed...for the better :) 

Why am I telling you this? 

Well I picked up a table late last summer that reminded me of the early days of my adulthood. 

 I would have KILLED for a table like this. It would have been a perfect fit in our first home...our second, third, fourth.......you get the picture. This would have been a keeper for me for sure.

 It's solid wood and man does it have the "cute" factor. At least in my mind it does. 

 And who does not need a spot to hide the remotes or all those slips of paper that accumulate.

But it was missing something. 

It needed updating. 

And now that I know how..........

Well I couldn't resist. 

And since I'm absolutely loving the whole grey and red thing. What better colours to use?

Red and grey of course :) 

 I didn't change a thing about this table. It didn't need it. 

You know sometimes you just have to change things in order for them to work. This didn't need it.

 Yes I added paint, yes I glazed it...even the hardware was updated...but structurally it was superb!

And now its for sale. 

I no longer have that first apartment, or that first, second, third or fourth home ( I think we are on number 11 now...true story)

Going to go spend a bit of time visiting with my sister now. Maybe we will go junking :)
